I addressed and attracted my target audience of teenage girls by doing research. I did questionnaires, interviews and group interviews, which allowed be to find the specific needs of my target audience. When choosing my genre I did a questionnaire to find out which genre was most popular with my target audience.
I also addressed and attracted my audience by my choice of model; I chose a teenage model as I thought she would appeal to a young audience, and because teenage girls would be able to relate more to someone their own age. I chose image where the poses were very natural and friendly, as I didn't want my model to look too serious and I didn’t want the images to be too overpowering. I wanted to choose pictures where my model looked very happy and feminine so that my target audience would look at the images and not feel like my model was to inappropriate or intimidating to be a pop star. For example I chose images where my cover model looked happy and was smiling naturally.
To attract my target audience I did need to make a lot of changes to my magazine. When I had finished the first draft of my magazine I had a group of people that were in my target audience tell me what they thought of it. The feedback that I got back was very constructive, the people I asked like the masthead and the images, however they said that my contents page was too dark and that I needed to give more detail in my contents page.
So I decided to change my contents page, in my second draft I had changed my contents page’s background from grey, to pink. However I still did not like my contents page, for my final draft I had changed my contents page completely. I decided to have a pink glittering background on half of the page, and a darker pink background of the other half. I did this to separate the text from the contents image. I also made shaded boxes around the page numbers to make the look less plain, I changed my page numbers from pink, to blue with a white outline so that they would stand out more and so that everything on the page was not the same colour. I also changed the image on my contents page; I decided to use a smaller image on my contents page, so that I could write more about the content of my magazine.
This is my final draft for my contents page, looking back in my work, it has changed a lot. II was able to get the opinions of my target audience and change what they thought needed improving.
I was able to meet the needs of my target audience by asking them what they think I should change. My contents page is nw much more detailed and I think it looks much better that my first draft.
I also made some changes to my cover I needed to make the text on my cover bolder as it was quite difficult to read. I made the font a very bright pink as it would grab the reader’s attention and the colour would also attract my target audience. Also I thought that my cover was too plain, so I added a pink background I think that this will attract my target audience because it will make my magazine stand out more, and it will attract my target audience as pink is a popular colour amongst teenage girls.
On my double page spread I put the image that was on my contents on my double page spread. I did this because I thought that the image would be more suitable for a double page spread rather than a contents page. I liked the image that I used for my contents page, however it too up too much room so I decided to use it for my double page spread. I put a purple background on half of the page to make my double page spread look less plain, I put the purple background on the same side as the images to make that page stand out and grab the reader’s attention. I didn’t put a background on the side of the page with the article because I wanted the article to be clear and easy to read.
I have made a lot of changes to my magazine so that I could attract my target audience through the presentation of my magazine.
