| NME magazine front cover This is a copy of NME, this is the kind of magazine that I looked at to help me think of ideas for my magazine. Above the copy of NME there is a copy of my magazine cover, as you can see I have used a left side third like NME and my masthead is in the top corner of the page. |
For the cover of my magazine I made my masthead very large, and placed it in the top left corner of my magazine. I chose to do this because, after looking at other music magazines I found that most of them had the mastheads in the top left corner like NME (above). I also chose to do this because I wanted my masthead to stand out, and by putting it at the top of the page the masthead would be the first thing that people look at. Also I organized the text on the cover in a left side third. I put all of the text on my front cover on the left side of the magazine; I did this to make my magazine look more organized. I also did this because many of the magazines that I have researched had used a left side third and they do this so that when the magazines are stacked vertically on store shelves the text will still be visible for the buyer to see. Also my magazine has a large image of the cover star, I did this because in the magazines that I have looked at, there is always a large image of one celebrity on the cover. Also in the magazines that I have analysed, I have found that many of them only have one picture on the cover, in KERRANG! There were a lot of pictures on the cover, but I thought that it looked too busy. I wanted my cover to look quite simple, I wanted to have one main image and lots of text; I chose a pink background to make the magazine stand out and to make my magazine look less plain.
On the left is my contents page for my corsework, I have got alot of ideas form Q's contents page, I have put the title at the top and I have the information on a separate side to the main image.
This is a contents page taken from Q magazine, I like this contents page as it is very simple and organized, all of the text is clear, and there is a large title reading contents at the top of the page. This is good because it tells the reader what page they are on, and the black and white font stand out because they are contrasting colours making the title really bold and eye catching.
On my contents page I had a large black and pink title. I did this because in the magazines that I have analysed there is always a title reading 'contents'. I did this so that the reader will know what page they are looking on. I also made sure that the title was bold and eye-catching so that it was clear and easy to read. Also in my contents I put all of the information on the left side with a picture of my cover star on the left, I did this to make my contents page look more organized. In magazines that I have analysed I have noticed that the images will be one a separate side to the text, I likes the way that it looked on the magazine page so I decided to do this on my magazine.
Also in my contents page I did half of the page one colour, the side where the text was put has a pink background to separate the text from the image. I have seen this done in other music magazines and I liked the way that that it looked on the page as it highlighted the text and made it stand out, I also think that it made the page look less plain. I have also put one image of my cover star on the right side of the page, I did this because in the magazines that I have looked at, there is always an image of the cover star on the contents page. I only used one image on my contents page as I wanted it to look quite simple and I didn't want my contents page to look too crowded.
For my double page spread I decided to have the text of the article on the right side and all of the images of my cover star on the left. I have seen this done in a few magazines that I have looked at, but in most magazines there were lots of images on both sides of the page. I decided to put the text and images on separate sides so that the double page would look more organized. I also did this so that the images on my double page spread would not interfere with the text. I wanted my article to be clear and easy to read, so I did not want images on both sides of the page because I think it would make my double page spread look too busy. I used a purple background for my double page spread as I wanted to use more feminine colour to attract my target audience. In the music magazine double page spread that I have looked at, the backgrounds have always been black or white; however I wanted a brighter, eye-catching colour.

This is my final double page spread; I have looked at a lot of music magazine double page spreads to give me ideas. I decided to have the image on a separate side to the text as I think it makes the page look more organized.
